Fabiola Ojeda
Cello Performer and Educator
"There is no spiritual life without music, for the human soul has regions which can be illuminated only by music." - Zoltan Kodaly
The Chilean cellist Fabiola Ojeda is a versatile performer on modern and period instruments in a historically informed style, a devoted chamber musician, and a dedicated cello teacher.
Her musical journey began at home under the tutelage of her father, with whom she first studied the violin. By the age nine, however, she discovered her true voice with the cello, continuing her training at the Conservatory of Valdivia in her hometown.
A scholarship from Georgia State University in 1995 marked a turning point, bringing her to Atlanta to pursue her studies. During this time in the United States she served at Columbus Symphony Orchestra and began working as assistant of Professor Martha Gerchefski. It was within that studio, while mentoring under Gerchefski's guidance, that she first discovered her passion for education. This pedagogical path continue later on in Germany, where once again she was placed as assistant of Professor Matias de Oliveira Pinto at Julius Stern Institute (University of the Arts - Berlin), and held a teaching position at the School of Music and Arts-Bielefeld while serving at the Orchestra of Münster Theatre.
Since making Athens her home in 2009, Fabiola has established herself in the musical scenes of the Greek capital. She has served as Principal Cellist for the Greek National Opera's Children's Stage, collaborated in concerts and recordings with Baroque Orchestra "Armonia Atenea," and performed with various contemporary and baroque ensembles, appearing at notable Greek festivals and venues such as Athens Epidaurus Festival, Sacred Music Festival of Athens, Spring Organ Festival Series in Athens, Hydra Classical Music Festival, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Athens Baroque Festival, Athens Concert Hall, and "Alternative Stage" of Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Fabiola has also collaborated with a distinguished circle of Greek composers, including Calliope Tsoupaki, Periklis Liakakis, Nikos Mamangakis, Nikos Kypourgos, Giorgos Kouroupos, George Tsontakis, and Theodore Antoniou. Her commitment to cultural exchange is further highlighted by her partnership with prominent Chilean composer Luis Saglie. Under the patronage of the Chilean Government in 2014 and 2017, she brought the projects "Tribute to Pablo Neruda" and “Tribute to Violeta Parra" to the Greek audience.
Fabiola has participated in masterclasses' with Professors Anatoly Krastev, Maria Kliegel, Collin Carr, Antonio Meneses, and Jaap ter Linden. She was a former student of Professors Martha Gerchefski (USA), Marcio Carneiro at Musikhochschule Detmold and Matias de Oliveira Pinto at Musikhochschule Münster, Germany. She has been awarded with the 1st Prize at the Chilean Young Talent Competition and at the Atlanta Cello Society Young Artists Competition, as well as a fellowship by the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now in Germany.
Since 2018, Fabiola has maintained a growing cello studio at the Kodaly Conservatory, teaching a wide range of students from young beginners to adult learners.
